Making Room for Me: The Power of Self-Care and ‘Me Time’

As the summer sun begins to shine brighter and the days get longer, June offers us a perfect reminder to pause and realign with ourselves. For many women—especially Black women juggling work, family, caregiving, and community responsibilities—taking time for ourselvescan feel like a luxury. But the truth is, it’s a necessity.

Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s survival. And it’s revolutionary.

At Our Sisters’ Circle, we believe that “me time” is more than spa days and bubble baths (though those are welcome!). It’s about creating space to recharge emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It’s about honoring your boundaries, listening to your body, and nurturing your mind and heart.

Why “Me Time” Matters:

Reduces stress: Carving out intentional time to rest, reflect, or simply be, helps regulate stress and prevent burnout.
Restores clarity: Quiet moments allow you to reconnect with your goals, values, and inner voice.
Strengthens resilience: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Me time refills your energy, helping you face life’s challenges with more grace and strength.

Try These Small Acts of Self-Care This Month:
Set aside 10–15 minutes daily just for you—read, journal, or sit in stillness.
Say “no” when you need to protect your peace.
Move your body in ways that feel joyful—walk, stretch, or dance.
Reconnect with something you love but haven’t done in a while.

This June, let’s make a commitment to put ourselves on our own priority lists. Remember, taking care of you isn’t just good for you—it’s good for everyone who depends on your light.

You are worthy of rest. You are deserving of joy. You are allowed to take up space.
Let June be the month you give yourself permission to make room for you.
